As a technology and productivity enthusiast, Steve Jobsā analogy of computers as a bicycle for the mind resonates with me. Here are some of my favorite tools and apps š¤
š±Ā Phone
Iām using an iPhone 11 Pro Max as my daily mobile device. At this point, Iām pretty deep into the Apple ecosystem which builds value the deeper you go (think iMessage, iCloud, Notes, etc.), so I donāt see this drastically changing anytime soon. But major new changes in the computing space like entirely new device categories could eventually change this.
Iāll probably upgrade to the latest model the next time my screen cracks.
šĀ Tablet
The 2020 12.9-inch iPad Pro has become my favorite general computing device, which I use for everything from getting work done to keeping up with personal life. Itās surprising how much I prefer using it due to its lighter weight, touch interaction, and Magic Keyboard which turn it into a more convenient laptop replacement that I can use around the home without being tethered to my desk.
š»Ā Laptop
For my work as a product manager, I use a 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip. The vast majority of my day is spent in Google Chrome working across an embarrassingly large number of tabs, and this laptop keeps up with the demand pretty well (although I usually need to reboot the machine each morning to get back to a clean state).
š„Ā Monitor
The most distinctive (and maybe slightly outlandish) part of my desk setup is an LG CX 48-inch OLED TV. I use this giant screen to multitask between up to three side-by-side vertical windows, which works great for reading and writing across them.
āØļøĀ Keyboard
Connected to my laptop is the Logitech MX Keys, which Iāve been a big fan of since its introduction. I love its design, performance, and quiet key click noise (which I find to be considerate when typing on video callsā¦ looking at you clicky mechanical keyboard enthusiasts š).
š±Mouse
Also connected to my laptop is the Logitech MX Master 3. Like the MX Keys, I love its dark design and productivity-minded performance. Something I love about both my keyboard and mouse is that they can easily switch between up to three Bluetooth devices, which makes them great for connecting toā¦
š„½Ā VR Headset
My day job is turning the Meta Quest into the next general computing device. Today itās a great device for enjoying immersive gaming and entertainment experiences, but Iām most excited for the future where we can use unlimited virtual screens to get things done. We have a long way to go, but with the previously mentioned keyboard and mouse, you can start to squint and see this future coming.
š£Ā Video Calling
I spend the vast majority of my day collaborating with people through a Meta Portal. Honestly, I probably wouldnāt use this a whole lot if it wasnāt provided by my employer. But I do find it really useful for taking video calls without taking up space or resources on my laptop.
šŗĀ TV
When itās time to unwind from the day, I watch TV on an 83-inch LG C1 OLED. My mad scientist dream is to one day live in a house thatās completely covered floor-to-ceiling in digital screens as walls, and this is a decent start. Since I tend to always be working on something, itās usually playing YouTube videos in the background. But it also makes for a wonderful movie streaming display.
šĀ Reading Tablet
I received a 5th generation iPad mini as a gift that I keep on my nightstand and use for reading and listening to books on Kindle before bed. I set up an accessibility shortcut to toggle display dimming which keeps it easy on the eyes so it helps put me to sleep at night.
š§Ā Headphones
The AirPods Pro are a huge reason that I listen to so many audiobooks. They also work great for listening to music during long runs around the city. Call quality is great when needed as well. Across so many use cases, these headphones are a game changer and easily one of my favorite tech devices.
